Benefits of Massages and Acupuncture to Your Overall Health Blog

Trigger point pain can be a nuisance. Apart from making you uncomfortable, if not well treated, it may end up causing you limited range of motion. Your quality of life also suffers immensely. Most people who suffer from myofascial pain have tried to look for solutions everywhere to no avail.

How else do massages and acupuncture help the body?

Massage and acupuncture are not only useful as trigger point therapy. When you have been injured or even after surgery, your body goes through shock and healing may take a while. Massage and acupuncture are your best healing solutions. Here are a few ways they help you heal faster.

  • Increasing blood and Qi circulation.

Acupuncture works on the principle that the body has two types of energy; negative and positive. When there is a balance of the two energies, the body is in good health. The balance also causes the flow of Qi which should not be stopped.

Illness, trauma or injury may cause the flow of Qi to stagnate or stop, and the body function may also be deterred. Acupuncture helps to increase the flow of Qi and bring the body back to optimal performance levels.

Movement helps to improve blood circulation. This is why exercises are good for you. Massages also mimic movement and encourage blood to flow to where it is needed the most.

  • Reducing anxiety

One of the most therapeutic features of massages and acupuncture is that they help you relax. The two treatments help relieve tension by increasing the production of endorphins (happy hormones). While that happens, the production of cortisol (stress hormone) reduces.

Cortisol not only makes you feel sad but also contributes to inflammation which may hinder your quick recovery. The treatments help lower those levels of cortisol and inflammation and help you heal faster.

  • Muscle relaxation

Tight muscles cause pain and inflammation and also generate inhibition of proper blood circulation.
When blood circulation is slowing down, it may cause inflammation. When you get a massage more blood circulates to the areas that are inflamed or those that are trying to recover. The increase in blood in these area reduces inflammation and helps you heal faster.

  • Manage and reduce pain

When you are in pain, you are not able to work, play or even sleep as you should. When you are unable to perform your daily duties, you may end up being stressed which as we have seen increases the production of cortisol.

Additionally, you may also not be able to move which means your blood circulation will be lower. When all these conditions are combined, your healing process becomes longer and harder.

Getting a massage or acupuncture can help relieve the pain which will get rid of the resultant complications and help you heal faster as well.

  • Enable you to move as you should

When you have trigger point pain, and you let it go untreated, it may lead to you not being able to move the affected areas properly. You may find yourself limping, unable to jump or run. Sometimes the pain causes referred pain in other areas like your back making it uncomfortable to sit or stand for long.

Getting a massage or acupuncture session will deal with the pain and enable you to have the full range of motion.

In this instance, an athlete was originally diagnosed with minor quadriceps muscle strain and was treated for four weeks, with unsatisfactory results. When he came to our clinic, the muscle was not healing, and the patients’ muscle tissue had already begun to atrophy.

Upon examination using MSUS, we discovered that he had a full muscle thickness tear that had been overlooked by his previous provider. To mitigate damage and promote healing, surgery should have been performed immediately after the injury occurred. Because of misdiagnosis and inappropriate treatment, the patient now has permanent damage that cannot be corrected.

The most important advantage of Ultrasound over MRI imaging is its ability to zero in on the symptomatic region and obtain imaging, with active participation and feedback from the patient. Using dynamic MSUS, we can see what happens when patients contract their muscles, something that cannot be done with MRI. From a diagnostic perspective, this interaction is invaluable.

to be a complete tear with muscle contraction
