Laser Therapy Treatment for Pain

People who suffer chronic pain often find themselves on a merry-go-round of treatments that never really work, medications that only temporarily numb the pain, and resignation to ongoing pain as a natural part of getting older. But what if you could shake things up at the molecular level, and actually trigger biological changes that eliminate pain at its source?

Benefits of Phoenix Theralase

Laser therapy is a non-invasive approach to treating chronic pain that reduces inflammation, eliminates pain and speeds up tissue healing. The treatment uses light energy to penetrate your skin, muscle, nerve, and connective tissues, stimulating a photochemical reaction that changes the chemical and physical properties of the affected area at the molecular level,

Phoenix Theralase Systems has developed one of the most advanced therapeutic laser technologies available, to help relieve pain and restore function.

Benefits of Phoenix Theralase include:

Suppression of fibroblast formation in tissue

Increased nerve stimulation and correction

Triggering of a Prostaglandin-Bradykinin effect to target pain

Regeneration of skin, nerve, and muscle tissue

Improved blood flow and increased development of blood vessels in damaged tissue

Stimulated production of natural opiates to reduce pain and encourage healing

Direct stimulation of cellular growth and collagen production for healing

How Laser Therapy Works

Laser therapy is not new. Lasers have been used for years in numerous medical procedures and have been proven safe and effective. But to effectively treat chronic pain, a laser devise must be able to do four things:

  • generate the correct wavelength of light
  • penetrate tissue to the required depth
  • deliver the optimal dose of light to the targeted tissue
  • stimulate a biological response

Phoenix Theralase technology uses dual wavelength super pulsing to activate the three primary cellular pathways:

  • The nitrous oxide (NO) pathway reduces inflammation
  • The lipid absorption pathway eliminates pain
  • The Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) pathway accelerates healing

When light from the laser penetrates soft tissues, light energy is converted into chemical or physical energy. Theralase treatment delivers cool, powerful high-frequency short-duration bursts of light energy to painful tissue, eliminating pain and promoting healing.

Laser Therapy Treatment

Laser therapy offers a safe and effective alternative to pain medications, which are often addictive and damaging to your liver. Each treatment is customized to the individual patient, to ensure the optimal dose of laser energy is applied to damaged tissue.

A laser therapy treatment takes only a few minutes and is completely non-invasive. You will feel the laser device touching your skin, but the procedure is painless. There will be no sound, vibration or heat.

In this instance, an athlete was originally diagnosed with minor quadriceps muscle strain and was treated for four weeks, with unsatisfactory results. When he came to our clinic, the muscle was not healing, and the patients’ muscle tissue had already begun to atrophy.

Upon examination using MSUS, we discovered that he had a full muscle thickness tear that had been overlooked by his previous provider. To mitigate damage and promote healing, surgery should have been performed immediately after the injury occurred. Because of misdiagnosis and inappropriate treatment, the patient now has permanent damage that cannot be corrected.

The most important advantage of Ultrasound over MRI imaging is its ability to zero in on the symptomatic region and obtain imaging, with active participation and feedback from the patient. Using dynamic MSUS, we can see what happens when patients contract their muscles, something that cannot be done with MRI. From a diagnostic perspective, this interaction is invaluable.

Dynamic ultrasonography examination demonstrating
the full thickness tear and already occurring muscle atrophy
due to misdiagnosis and not referring the patient
to proper diagnostic workup

Demonstration of how very small muscle defect is made and revealed
to be a complete tear with muscle contraction
under diagnostic sonography (not possible with MRI)
