Physical Therapy and Headache Relief: A Brave New Approach

Physical Therapy and Headache Relief: A Brave New Approach Blog

If you suffer from frequent headaches, you might want to take a yoga, tai chi or meditation class to alleviate your stress. Since an excessive amount of stress can cause headaches, you may wish to try natural methods that eliminate stressful feelings. First, ask yourself why you feel so stressful.

Accomplish the Tasks on your To-Do List

Perhaps your to-do list is overwhelming. Procrastination can cause you to feel more stress. Try doing at least one chore on your list every day.

Mark off each activity right after its completion. Reduce the amount of stress you feel by lessening the number of tasks you need to accomplish.

Develop an Inner Sense of Harmony

Strive to create a sense of inner peace and balance in your daily lifestyle. When diagnosing the cause of your headaches, make sure you tell the doctor about any stress you are feeling. Besides causing headaches, anxiety and nervousness can cause various pains throughout your body.

Tension is a Dangerous Problem Requiring Immediate Attention

Excessive apprehension can cause migraine headaches and a chronic temporomandibular joint and muscle disorder (TMJ). Taking aspirins and other types of pain pills to relieve headaches may get rid of the pain.

However, you still do not know the cause of your headaches. Eliminating headaches on a permanent basis relies on pinpointing the reasons that cause your head to ache.

Constricted Muscles May Cause you to Feel Pain in Your Head

You may not realize that constriction of the muscles in the head causes pain that closely mimics the symptoms experienced when having a migraine headache. The muscles in your head, neck and shoulders include the pterygoids and the upper trapezius. Researchers have made it clear that each of these muscles is associated with a particular type of pain.

Get Rid of Bad Habits that Cause Headaches

You might not think that habits have any detrimental effects on whether you experience headaches. Yet, specific muscles can get bent out of shape when you slouch while watching your favorite television show or when you bite your nails.
Harboring stressful emotions can program muscles to cause excruciating pain in your head.

The following common activities can trigger headaches:

  • Habitual nail-biting
  • Poor posture
  • Stress

Chronic headaches wreak havoc on your life in different ways. If you suffer from constant pain in your head or neck, your grades in school may suffer. If you have a job, your boss may notice that your performance is less than desirable.
Your friends may wonder why you never want to socialize anymore. You would like to erase all future headaches. The problem is that medicines often cause negative side effects that can harm your health.

Physical Therapy is a Natural Way to Eliminate Headaches

Physical therapy may prove triumphant over the elimination of your headaches.
A physical therapist is trained in various methods aimed toward providing relief from your chronic headaches.

A physical therapist performs the following:

  • Joint tissue mobilization methods
  • Instructions in exercises that improve your posture
  • Behavior management techniques

You do not necessarily need to experience headaches for the rest of your life. Break free from your pain. Contact a physical therapy center today so that you can experience living without pain.

In this instance, an athlete was originally diagnosed with minor quadriceps muscle strain and was treated for four weeks, with unsatisfactory results. When he came to our clinic, the muscle was not healing, and the patients’ muscle tissue had already begun to atrophy.

Upon examination using MSUS, we discovered that he had a full muscle thickness tear that had been overlooked by his previous provider. To mitigate damage and promote healing, surgery should have been performed immediately after the injury occurred. Because of misdiagnosis and inappropriate treatment, the patient now has permanent damage that cannot be corrected.

The most important advantage of Ultrasound over MRI imaging is its ability to zero in on the symptomatic region and obtain imaging, with active participation and feedback from the patient. Using dynamic MSUS, we can see what happens when patients contract their muscles, something that cannot be done with MRI. From a diagnostic perspective, this interaction is invaluable.

Dynamic ultrasonography examination demonstrating
the full thickness tear and already occurring muscle atrophy
due to misdiagnosis and not referring the patient
to proper diagnostic workup

Demonstration of how very small muscle defect is made and revealed
to be a complete tear with muscle contraction
under diagnostic sonography (not possible with MRI)
